Green Peas Curry Recipe Kerala Style | Easy Coconut Curry
A simple and creamy Kerala-style curry made with coconut milk, perfect with chapathi, appam, and porotta.
Ingredients
- Green peas – 1 cup (soaked if dried)
- Onion – 2 (sliced)
- Tomato – 1 (chopped)
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Green chilli – 2 to 3
- Coconut milk (thin) – 1.5 cups
- Coconut milk (thick) – ½ cup
- Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
- Chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Coriander powder – 2 tsp
- Garam masala – ½ tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
- Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Preparation Method
- Cook soaked green peas with salt and turmeric until soft.
- Heat coconut oil and crack mustard seeds.
- Add onion, green chilli, and curry leaves. Sauté well.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until raw smell disappears.
- Reduce heat and add turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
- Add chopped tomato and cook until soft.
- Add cooked green peas (with water) and mix well.
- Pour thin coconut milk and simmer until slightly thick.
- Add thick coconut milk, heat gently, and switch off (do not boil).
- Finish with curry leaves and a drizzle of coconut oil.
Serving Suggestion
Serve hot with chapathi, appam, or Kerala porotta for best taste.
