Green Peas Curry Recipe Kerala Style | Easy Coconut Curry

A simple and creamy Kerala-style curry made with coconut milk, perfect with chapathi, appam, and porotta.

Ingredients

  • Green peas – 1 cup (soaked if dried)
  • Onion – 2 (sliced)
  • Tomato – 1 (chopped)
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Green chilli – 2 to 3
  • Coconut milk (thin) – 1.5 cups
  • Coconut milk (thick) – ½ cup
  • Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  • Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  • Garam masala – ½ tsp
  • Salt – to taste
  • Coconut oil – 2 tbsp
  • Mustard seeds – ½ tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig

Preparation Method

  1. Cook soaked green peas with salt and turmeric until soft.
  2. Heat coconut oil and crack mustard seeds.
  3. Add onion, green chilli, and curry leaves. Sauté well.
  4. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook until raw smell disappears.
  5. Reduce heat and add turmeric, chilli powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  6. Add chopped tomato and cook until soft.
  7. Add cooked green peas (with water) and mix well.
  8. Pour thin coconut milk and simmer until slightly thick.
  9. Add thick coconut milk, heat gently, and switch off (do not boil).
  10. Finish with curry leaves and a drizzle of coconut oil.

Serving Suggestion

Serve hot with chapathi, appam, or Kerala porotta for best taste.
